OUTCOMES

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

On completion of this unit of competency, Instructors and Trainers will be qualified to develop and deliver movement programs to children aged 5-12 years.

Group fitness instructors and Personal Trainers completing this unit will be able to develop programs and session plans for groups of children designed to promote movement, physical activity, physical literacy, and general wellbeing.

Programs for children can be delivered in fitness facilities, gyms, leisure and community centres, childcare centres, schools, and outdoor locations.

Existing exercise professionals registered with industry organisations like AUSactive can earn education credits, for example AUSactive offer 5 CEC’s per unit of competency from a sport, fitness and recreation training package.

OVERVIEW

COURSE OVERVIEW

Fitness Institute’s courses are supported with a wide range of evidenced-based learning materials that will detail how to design safe and effective movement programs using games and fitness activities.

Many of the materials provided can be used to create individual sessions and programs, well beyond completing the assessment tasks.

A mentor from a sport, fitness, recreation facility will be required to assist in the completion of this course.

Other assessment tasks for this unit are:

  • Knowledge questions
  • Case Studies from which three (3) movement programs are to be designed
  • Review and evaluation of industry standard movement programs
  • Development of three (3) thirty-minute group sessions that are to be delivered to at least six (6) people  

Access to an established kids fit program will be a bonus, but if this is not possible, scenario-based training can be organised with six (6) adults to help with completing the three (3) x 30-minute group sessions required for practical assessment.

REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Fitness Institute requires all learners in this unit to have obtained, at a minimum, a Certificate III in Fitness that includes the group fitness unit of competency.

Please note, that if group fitness did not form part of the initial Certificate III in Fitness, these units can be added into this short course on request.

A JP Certified copy of your Certificate III in Fitness or Statement of Attainment is to be submitted upon enrolment.

AUSactive are now offering free Student Insurance, if insurance is not currently held, and a requirement for a USI number.
