WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

If you’re looking to develop your very own, unique fitness sessions and programs, Fitness Institute’s Group Fitness (GFI) short course is for you!

On completion of the two nationally recognised units of competency that form part of this course, Instructors and Personal Trainers will be qualified to develop and deliver group fitness sessions that incorporate cardiovascular, resistance and flexibility exercises to people of all ages and fitness levels.

These sessions can be delivered in many locations, for example fitness facilities, health clubs, gyms, leisure and community centres, schools and workplaces.

Graduates not only obtain a set of valuable and sought-after fitness, recreation and leisure industry skills, completing this short course equips learners with the ability to design and deliver individualised group exercise sessions they have either designed themselves or have been developed by others, for example predesigned/pre-choreographed classes.

Examples of some of the many types of group classes that can be developed are:

  • Interval training sessions
  • High and/or low impact classes
  • Stretch, flexibility, and mobility sessions
  • Functional fitness sessions
  • Abs and core sessions
  • Older adult sessions
  • Circuit style sessions
  • Community fitness classes
  • Team building classes
  • Corporate fitness classes

Exercise professionals registered with industry organisations like AUSactive can earn education credits, for example AUSactive offer 5 CEC’s per unit of competency from the sport, fitness and recreation training package.

OVERVIEW

COURSE OVERVIEW

Fitness Institute’s courses are supported with a wide range of evidenced-based learning materials that will detail how to design safe and effective group fitness sessions to people of all ages and fitness levels.

Many of the materials provided can be used to create individual sessions and programs, well beyond completing the assessment tasks.

A mentor from a sport, fitness, recreation facility will be required to assist in the completion of this course.

Other assessment tasks for this short course are:

  • Knowledge questions
  • Designing six (6) different group exercise sessions
  • Delivering three (3) specified group sessions to a minimum of six (6) people
  • Review and evaluation of industry standard group fitness programs

Fitness Institute’s GFI course brings together two industry recognised units of competency:

SISFFIT035 – Plan group exercise sessions
SISFFIT036 – Instruct group exercise sessions

REQUIREMENTS

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

Course Prerequisites:

Fitness Institute requires all learners in this unit to have obtained, at a minimum, a Certificate III in Fitness.

A JP Certified copy of your Certificate III in Fitness or Statement of Attainment is to be submitted upon enrolment.

AUSactive are now offering free Student Insurance, (if insurance is not currently held), and a requirement for a USI number.
