A Townsville first, The Health Hub opened December 2016!
The Venue, formally known as The Lion Brewery was first built in 1894 by Madsen & Watson and designed by John Beauchamp Nicholson. It was later founded by Albert Lanfear and his partner Samuel Nesbitt Allen as The Lion Brewery.
The building has also been a nightclub (The Venue, Play Pen and Bombay Rock) as well as a Holden car dealership in its time.
Fast forward to 2016 Townsville’s iconic landmark has been transformed into the Townsville’s Health Hub, complete with Strand Fitness’ state of the art gym (relocated from North Ward to CBD), swimming pool, learn-to-swim classes, yoga studio, healthy cafe and of course, Fitness Institute!
