Cheryl Coverdale

Currently working on creating a healthy work-life balance, Cheryl recently completed the Group Exercise Leader (GEL) qualification and is now pursuing her passion for fitness and dance by teaching group classes and Zumba!

We recently asked Cheryl to share her experiences with us….

What drew you to the fitness industry?

For as long as I can remember I have had a passion for fitness, dancing and helping people. When I started going to the gym I realized I can share my passion and do more of what I love by being a group fitness and zumba instructor…

So I decided to start my journey to be in the fitness industry!

A work/life balance is an important part of living a happy, fulfilled life in my own opinion.

Caring for others begins with caring for ourselves. The more love we give to ourselves, the more we have to share with others.

Taking time to care for our well being is essential to living a balanced life. We refresh the mind, replenish the heart and nurture the soul. We are renewed and better capable of performing everyday miracles for others.

What did you take away from completing the GEL course?

I enjoyed trying out different fitness classes and meeting people from all walks of life like gym goers, class participants, instructors, managers, fitness professionals etc.

It was such a good way to learn hands on from those experiences and from different perspectives.

I also enjoyed the format the course was presented on, which was pretty straightforward and easy to understand plus the customer support was very helpful.

True, it is a lot of hard work but it makes it a bit easier to be able to turn in the assignments and practical tests at my leisure and when I have the time – this flexibility made it convenient, especially during COVID restrictions.

What advice would you offer to new students?

For students starting their learning journey, my advice is to never give up, stay motivated and try to eliminate distractions by creating a schedule and trying to stick to it.

Also, leverage your network by participating actively and getting involved by collaborating and discussing lessons with mentors, instructors, other students, as they are a valuable resource.

We wish you all the best in your Fitness Career Cheryl!
