This course is tailored for Personal Trainers who coach athletes to improve on the demands of their sport. Throughout the program, you’ll gain industry-relevant skills such as:

Course Prerequisites: Fitness Institute requires a minimum of either the Certificate III in Fitness or relevant units covering Pre-Exercise Screening.

A JP Certified copy of your Certificate III in Fitness or Statement of Attainment is to be submitted upon enrolment.

FAQs

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO COMPLETE THE COURSE?

You’ll have a generous 5 months to complete the Strength and Conditioning Short Course.

HOW QUICKLY CAN I COMPLETE THE COURSE?
The course could be completed in as little as two weeks. 

Depending on your dedication and prior experience, completion can range from 2 – 20 weeks.

Most full-time working students finish in 4-6 weeks by completing their theory and then completing the practical components of the course.

CAN I GET CONTINUAL EDUCATION CREDITS (CECs) WITH THIS COURSE?

Yes, upon completion, you can upload your Statement of Attainment to AusActive for 20 CEC points.

There are 4 Units of Competency in this course and each are worth 5 CECs for a total of 20 CEC points.

This is Nationally Accredited Training through Fitness Institute RTO 32089.

IF I'M NOT EXPERIENCED IN THE GYM, CAN I STILL JOIN THE COURSE?
This gym is intended for students who area at least at the gym instructor level (Cert III in Fitness), however ideally they would be Personal Trainers already (Cert IV in Fitness), who may not have had training covering strength and conditioning.
HOW MUCH PRACTICAL WORK IS REQUIRED AT A FITNESS FACILITY?

You will need to train 3 clients (aged between 18 – 54) through a series of sessions (ideally a maximum of 3 per week):

  • Pre-Screen
  • Fitness Appraisal
  • Functional Movement Screen
  • 3x Strength and Conditioning Sessions with various session goals (+ additional long term programming that isn’t required to be delivered
  • Final Appraisal / Functional Movement Screen

Your local mentor will guide you, and provide a mix of direct and indirect supervision with feedback for your continual improvement.

We provide access to free student insurance through AusActive for your peace of mind.

WHAT IF I CAN'T FIND A GYM AND A MENTOR?
Ideally students for this professional development course would already be established in a gym that has mentors who have at least a Cert IV in Fitness plus additional Strength and Conditioning experience. If you still can’t find a mentor, we may be able to provide one at an additional cost.
DO I NEED TO COMPLETE THE S&C COURSE IN SEQUENTIAL ORDER & WAIT FOR ASSESSMENTS TO BE MARKED BEFORE MOVING ON?

While we recommend completing the course in order, you’ll have access to all materials upon enrollment.

You can progress to further sections once items are submitted for grading.

First aid certification (externally obtained) and insurance is required before training any clients.

DO I NEED A WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECK (WWCC) TO COMPLETE THE S&C COURSE?

This course is intended for adult clients 18 – 54 years old.

WHO ARE THE MAIN ONLINE PRESENTERS?
Your online course presenters are Philip Sherriff and Jordan Murray. 
Philip holds an Australian Strength and Conditioning Association (ASCA) Level 2 Professional Certification, CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, 2x Diplomas of Fitness and is currently completing his Masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning at La Trobe University (2023-2025). He has 20 years combined sports and strength and conditioning coaching including experience with the WNBL and WNRL. 
Jordan is a Powerlifter who holds a Bachelor of Kinesiology from Canada.
