Learn how to perform the Back Extension exercise to strengthen the muscles of the lower back and spine with the team at Fitness Institute.
To begin, position yourself face down on the machine with thighs against pads. Place feet on the platform with ankles underneath pads – this will lock the feet into place and keep you stable.
Cross arms in front of chest – the body should be straight from head to toe (Figure 1).
From here, flex the hip, allowing head and chest to travel towards the ground or feet (Figure 2). Ensure you keep the back straight at all times.
When you reach the desired depth, extend the hips, returning to the start position.
